Target Audience
Online Professional Learning is offered for ABEL/LC community members to attend sessions from remote locations. Customized virtual training sessions are also available. Please contact abelinfo@yorku.ca for more information.
Description
ABEL Online Professional Learning offers a means for educators to attend training sessions from a remote location to suit their needs. These sessions will be only offered online and some testing of connectivity before the session is required. The focus of each session will vary to meet the needs of the participants and depend on the virtual tool being used.

Just in Time Virtual Moodle Madness:These virtual opportunities offer you a chance to have a Moodle expertcome to your school virtually for a one hour training session on aspecific topic. Simply choose your topic, choose your date and chooseyour time. Have your session for a lunch and learn, during a commonprep or after school.
Possible Moodle topics (choose only one per session):
- set up your first Moodle course
- organize your main page with themes, titles, labels and blocks
- insert an image and embed html code from websites such as YouTube
- add a discussion forum
- add an assignment
- add a wiki (come to the session with a project idea)
- using Wimba that is integrated in ABEL Moodle
Criteria for booking the session:
- book at least one week in advance
- booka technical test at least two days before session date to test the vcin the room for the session with the computer to be used
- hold session in a computer lab with everyone at their own computer and have a separate computer for the vc
- log into the vc session 15 minutes before the start time
- ensure everyone in the room wants to learn the same chosen topic
- ensure everyone in the room has the proper Moodle account
- send a list of names of participants to the ABEL Program Office at least five days in advance

To participate, please email abelinfo@yorku.ca with your request, providing the topic of your choice, a few dates that work for you and the time of day.

Registration
Registrationand participation in training days are subject to teacher releaseapproval. Please consult with your administration for approval toparticipate. To access release time, ABEL Community members shouldfollow the procedure for their specific school district and acquire theappropriate release codes from their district's ABEL Lead.
Once release time has been approved, go to www.abelearn.ca and log in to the community. Move your mouse over “Calendars” in the blue navigation bar and click on “RegisterNow PL”. Find the seminar you would like to register for and click on it. Follow the steps for registration.
